It's not really a game, more of an interactive story. Not a terribly good one at that.

The animation was really smooth, the programming flawless, and it was kind of funny. It's just completely nonsensically pointless.

I don't understand how it even makes sense to fall out of a window while crawling across the ground. How could you possibly have enough momentum to not be able to stop? That makes the storyline flawed. The entire game consists of holding down the left button. There is no content.

Overall great animation and whatnot, but I really wish there was a category for interactive movies on Newgrounds. Under such a category, this game might have made sense. But as a game, it made none.

Fantastic animation, great sequences, funny dialogue. This is a great movie.
However, as a game, it's terrible.
The controls are quite bad, the enemies aren't difficult, nor is the game (your dude just fixes you right up). As for the length, can you really call this a game? It's three levels of holding down the mouse.

Long story short, if this were a movie, you'd get all fives from me. I sincerely beleive that that's the direction you guys should take with this; just forego the game sequences and focus on the animation sequences. The weak "game" portion of this is what drops you two stars; since it's filed under "games" and not "movies", I have to rate it accordingly.

But otherwise, this movie shows really impressive potential for a newgrounds series. I hope you guys keep it going! Minus, that is, stringing together your movies with bad gameplay.

Kind of funny, but isn't this just a rip-off of the original? With less content? It's sort of been done to death.

Sort of . Consider it a parody.

ADDICTING GAME

Dear lord. I really like this game.

It's just so fascinating. I love the aspect of rebuilding and protecting this city and all it's people.

Look, overall i just have a good impression, I'm not going to bore you with the details.

BTW, as for the Chosen Ones, I too accepted his request to start the church. But after reading his whole accept the dead thing, and reading all these reviews, i overthrew the church and he killed himself before anyone started getting all suicidey on me. So it worked out for me.

So here's the deal.

This game would get higher if it weren't for the consistent never ending bugs, and one that pissed me off to no end.

The storyline was interesting. Put me in a competitive mood. You even gave us some rivals, summoning back hated memories of Gary Oak.

The gameplay is different, so you don't feel like you're playing any old monster training combat game *COUGH* POKEMON *COUGH*

It can get a little boring, and I wish agility did more to make your fill-up bar faster.

You should make sure to spell check all your text, and maybe find a writer. I found some of it to be pretty bad.

What's the point of having all those activity points if your pet's mood always stays the same? I think it should vary depending on wins/losses, damage taken in battles, etc. I never lost a battle so I don't know if mood IS affected by losing.

Over all this game is pretty fun. I'd probably give it a 9 or maybe an 8 if I was in a grumpy mood. But then, there are the bugs.

It started off for me where every week was a new year. It was kind of annoying, but bearable. So it would look like it took me a lot longer to become master. I was the only one who saw it anyway. But then it just so happened that my Unihound which I had spent over 80 (game) weeks working on, who had full power, intelligence, and near full agility, suddenly turned into a Unihound with 1 power, 0 defense, 0 agility, and 1 intelligence. Boy, was that some internal anger right there. Somehow that 0 defense made me unkillable (another glitch), but the 1 power made every move about 1 damage. So if I were to play a single monster, it might last about an hour.

This otherwise pretty well done game is undone by a load of bugs. I would suggest more time spent debugging and testing your game, especially one as big as this, before you release it to the general public. I won't be playing anymore as I've just been frustrated away by it. It's a pretty well done game, minus all these bugs.

Interesting concept, bad execution.

Well at least I can say one thing; I expected this to be some crappy "art" game, and it wasn't, which made me happy.

This idea was original and interesting, and originality in flash games is not something you see a lot of anymore. However, it wasn't done to a very appealing level.

I'd actually say my biggest complaint is the music. It's absolutely terrible. Mixed with the sounds of all the screaming people, it is a sound by itself that would make me stop playing the game. The annoying melody, beats, and piercing... sound... make the game an earsore. As I write this review, I've had to mute my computer.

The gameplay is pretty boring. A memory game is interesting, but running around doing the same thing only with more people doesn't give me a high replay value. Not to mention that the game doesn't last very long. The path of the meteor is pretty strange too. I would have much preferred it hit the ground all at once than slowly cover the screen, which from the perspective you drew it, doesn't make sense.

There's just not a lot of "substance" in this game, I guess that's my problem. Graphic wise, gameplay wise, and interest wise.
That, and the ear splitting music.
Original concept though. Kudos on that.

RetroArts responds:

I changed the music. Please wait for the 1.4 update to be approved by Newgrounds.

Fun, but with some downfalls.

Very fun time waster. Simple game play, but entertaining enough to keep you occupied for a while and give you a good time. The graphics are OK, but could've been a wee bit better. The music is good, but sounds kind of like it was recorded by cell phone, which is the downfall of many popbrain games. Overall I thought it wasn't all too new or original, but was a fun game for what it was.

Also, kingsman13, instead of saying the game is frozen, why don't you just try hitting the up key when it says "Press up key to jump" instead of waiting for the ninja to keep running :P Dur.

Well!

My last truthful review got deleted on your games. Since I guess criticism is insulting and the only reviews allowed should be 10's, I guess I'm evil.

-I felt the graphics weren't very well done. The kind of stuff that could be drawn in MS paint.
-The voice acting and dialogue were painfully cheesy.
-The enemies are boring.
-The weapons are boring.
-The aiming system is pretty unhelpful.
-The plot is pretty weak. For example, "They forgot to take my ID away". I don't know if it was supposed to be funny or what, but that's a pretty lazy way to have your character escape.
-The control set-up is kind of counter-intuitive
-The character design is very boring. Aren't these guys supposed to be galactic fighters or what not? I mean the red-haired guy is wearing a red shirt and what looks like blue jeans. She's got pink hair, a yellow shirt, and pink pants. That evil lady in the beginning looks to be wearing a pant-suit. I mean I know pant-suits are terrifying and all but I would have done something different.
-The gameplay is boring and it doesn't make me want to play to the end. Jumping around a screen and holding down the fire button doesn't really thrill me.

The honest truth is I just don't find anything about this game I very much like, and that's my opinion, so sue me. But you spent the time to program this and animate so it definitely deserves a fair score. What is making me confused though is that this series has been featured on the front page for a while now. I don't think it's fair that just because it's a series, it keeps getting featured. I've seen more deserving pieces than this get shafted for any recognition, so I don't see why this game has been up for so long. It just doesn't seem very fair to me.

My advice for next time is to improve your animating skills, get a writer, and imagine a method of more original game-play. "Generic side scroller where you hold down the fire button" has kind of been done to death.

Great game!

Let's face it people; you can't lose this game.
It takes NO skill. Even with a sniper rifle, you can basically kill those bugs without aiming very well. It has no challenge except to get medals and new weapons, which really just consists of repeatedly doing the same thing over and over.

But man, is it satisfying. This is what we call "stress-release". LOOK AT ME, FOR I AM GOD. I CAN DESTROY YOU, BUGS, WITH A CLICK OF MY MOUSE!

The graphics and animation of gun firing/bugs/melee weapons were actually quite impressive for such a simple game. It seems like most weapons in the game aren't too different from other weapons of the same type, but the quantity of weapons to collect makes up for it. I also liked the wide range of buggy victims to annihilate.

Overall, a great game. Fun, simple, and well made. Along with other details that irked me, the main reason that I gave the game an "8" was that after a while, it gets pretty boring. After no more than 10 minutes of playing this game, I usually start getting bored. But it's still okay because the game keeps you coming back for more!

PS- THE NUKE IS NOT A LIE! Quit taking off points for the nuke! It blows up! Geez, all this excitement for the nuke, and you don't even think to hit the nuke before it fades away? Try this. Hit the "switch to random weapon after reload" button, throw down a nuke, wait for the reload, and hit the nuke. I promise you'll be happy.

WE FUCKING GET IT, IT'S LIKE POCKET TANKS.

OKAY, TO ALL YOU SMARTASSES SAYING "POCKET TANKS POCKET TANKS POCKET TANKS" WE KNOWWW. IT'S NOT A SECRET, SHERLOCK. BUT IF YOU HAVENT FIGURED IT OUT YET THIS GAME IS MUCH MORE ACCESSIBLE THAN POCKET TANKS.

Anyway, now that that's done, I give this game a 9/10 for how easy it is to just jump in and start having fun, the variety of interesting weapons, the way the game doesn't RELY on you buying stuff, and the sheer fun I'm having playing it and blasting strangers to smithereens.

I did take off one star for the repetitive gameplay. But what else can you expect from a turn based shooter?

I will blow your mind with my sweet tuneage.
